Motorcycle Ride Planner is free, and it is built so that most of it works without telling us anything at all. This page says exactly what that means.

What stays on your device

Your garage — the bikes you add, the roads you save — is stored in your own browser and never sent to us. So are your display settings: text size, theme, what kind of riding you plan for. Clear your browser data and they are gone, including from our side, because they were never on our side.

A trip you plan is encoded in the web address itself. That is why you can bookmark it or send it to somebody with no account and no sign-up, and it means we do not need a copy of it for sharing to work.

Location, which is the part that matters

If you use Use my location when planning, your browser gives us a position to plan from. It is used for that and not stored.

If you deliberately start a ride so people can follow along, your position is sent while the ride is running so the people you gave the link to can see where you are. That is the entire purpose of the feature. It is a safety feature for family and clubs, not a statistics feature.

We do not sell location data. We do not use it to target advertising. We do not build a profile of where you ride. That is a decision recorded in our own architecture notes, not a line added to satisfy a policy page.

Stop the ride and the sharing stops.

Who else sees a route

Planning a route means asking other services to draw it. Map tiles come from OpenStreetMap, routing from a Valhalla routing server, and place search from Nominatim. Those services necessarily see the coordinates involved in the request. We do not send them your name, your email, or anything about your bike, because we do not need to.

Accounts

You can use this site without one. If you choose to sign in with Google or Apple we receive your name and email address from them and nothing else. We never see or store a password, because we never ask for one. An account exists so your garage follows you between devices; it does not unlock anything, and nothing you can see today will be put behind it.

Advertising

This site is free and is paid for by advertising. Ads may be matched to the kind of motorcycle in your garage — a touring rider and a sport rider want different tyres. They are not matched to where you have ridden or where you are.

Keeping it

Live positions exist while a ride is running and are not kept as a history for us to mine. Anything tied to an account is deleted when you ask us to delete the account.

Children

This is a service for people who ride motorcycles. It is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes, and asking us things

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we do with your information, the date at the top changes and the change is described here rather than slipped in.

Questions, or a request to delete what we hold: [email protected].
