Ruta 40: Camino de los Siete Lagos (Seven Lakes Road)
The crown jewel of Argentina's legendary 3,100-mile Ruta 40. Fully paved and flawlessly surfaced, it winds through Nahuel Huapi and Lanín National Parks connecting seven crystalline glacial lakes (Lácar, Machónico, Falkner, Villarino, Espejo Chico, Correntoso, and Espejo). Snow-capped Andean peaks, thick native coihue forests, and alpine sweepers.
Cuesta del Lipán & Salinas Grandes (Ruta 52)
A masterpiece of Argentine highway engineering. Ascends out of the colorful indigenous village of Purmamarca via an immaculate, banked ribbon of asphalt that climbs 6,500 vertical feet in 20 miles. Crests the Abra de Potrerillos pass at 13,680 feet before descending onto the dazzling, blinding-white expanse of the Salinas Grandes salt flats.
