The undisputed overland motorcycle pilgrimage of North America, spanning the 1,000-mile length of the Baja Peninsula from the Pacific surf of Ensenada to the granite arches of Land's End at Cabo San Lucas. Traverses the cactus-studded Valle de los Cirios, the salt flats of Guerrero Negro (28th Parallel state line), the volcanic switchbacks of Cuesta del Infierno, and the turquoise waters of Bahía Concepción. Road Quality: Narrow two-lane asphalt with zero shoulders, irregular pavement patching, washboard edges, and sudden concrete vados (washes). Safety & Military Checkpoints: Multiple permanent SEDENA military and Guardia Nacional checkpoints (notably south of Ensenada, El Rosario, San Ignacio, and north of La Paz); stop smoothly, remove helmet and sunglasses, greet soldiers with 'Buenos días/tardes', and have vehicle registration ready. Strictly avoid night riding due to open-range black cattle (vacas negras) sleeping on warm asphalt and unlit farm trucks. Fuel Range: The critical fuel gap is between El Rosario and Cataviña / Villa Jesús María (approx. 200 miles); top off in El Rosario and carry auxiliary fuel or purchase emergency barrel gas (gasolina de tambo) from roadside vendors in Cataviña.

The gateway motorcycle twisties of Northern Baja, connecting the quiet border town of Tecate south through the massive granite boulder hills of the Sierra de Juárez into Mexico's premier wine valley, Valle de Guadalupe. Offers broad, flowing sweepers, dramatic boulder-strewn topography, and a gradual descent toward the Pacific coastal port of Ensenada. Road Quality: High-grade asphalt with excellent banking and wide lanes, recently repaved through the winery corridor with dedicated bypasses around El Porvenir. Safety & Military Checkpoints: Occasional military inspection checkpoint near Francisco Zarco and border patrol near Tecate; generally one of the safest and most tourist-friendly motorcycling corridors in Baja. Fuel Range: Plentiful modern fuel stations offering 91-octane premium gasoline in Tecate, Francisco Zarco, and Ensenada (max station gap < 30 miles).
