Safety & Military Checkpoints: Highly remote territory; ride exclusively in dry weather as rain turns the red clay into grease; ride in pairs or small groups; respect local indigenous Tarahumara communities. Fuel Range: Top off in San Rafael or Bahuichivo; hand-pumped fuel available in Urique village; steep climbs demand high fuel reserves (at least 90-mile range).
