From the summit lodge, riders look directly down into the emerald-and-sapphire crater lakes of the Sun and Moon (Laguna del Sol y de la Luna). Road Quality: Paved highway to Raíces, transitioning into rough, corrugated volcanic scree, sharp switchbacks, and loose pumice stone; dual-sport or ADV motorcycle strongly recommended. Safety & Military Checkpoints: State park ranger station collects park admission and monitors weather closures; severe risk of altitude sickness and hypothermia; sudden snowstorms or dense freezing fog can roll in within minutes; carbureted engines will lose significant horsepower.
