Grossglockner High Alpine Road (Großglockner Hochalpenstraße)
Austria premier panoramic alpine toll road (Mautstraße) engineered specifically for driving drama across Hohe Tauern National Park. Features 36 numbered hairpin bends (Kehren), sweeping high-friction asphalt, the historic Hochtor tunnel summit at 2,504m, and a cobblestone spur climbing to Edelweißspitze (2,571m / 8,435 ft) with panoramic vistas of 30 three-thousand-meter peaks and the Pasterze Glacier beneath the Großglockner (3,798m). Dedicated toll road (~€33-35 motorcycle day ticket; separate Austrian highway vignette not required for the pass itself). Closed November through early May.
Timmelsjoch / Passo del Rombo
Dramatic trans-alpine gateway connecting Austrian Tyrol with Italian South Tyrol at 2,509m (8,232 ft). The Austrian northern ramp features sweeping, wide curves and the Top Mountain Crosspoint motorcycle museum at the toll plaza. The Italian southern ramp drops 6,000 vertical feet down Val Passiria via 30 incredibly tight hairpins, steep 12% grades, and unlit rock tunnels carved into granite cliffs. Toll road on Austrian side (~€18 motorcycle one-way). Closed mid-October to late May.
