Transalpina (DN67C - Drumul Regelui)
Known as Drumul Regelui (The King Road), this is the highest paved road in Romania, topping out at Pasul Urdele (2,145m / 7,037 ft) across the Parâng Mountains. Paved relatively recently, it offers smooth, wide asphalt flowing along high alpine mountain ridges far above the treeline with sweeping Carpathian panoramas. Requires Romanian road vignette (Rovinieta). Seasonal closure from November to late May. Free-ranging shepherd sheepdogs and loose gravel at mountain pullouts.
