Furka Pass (Furkapass)
Legendary high-altitude Swiss pass immortalized in James Bond Goldfinger during the Aston Martin DB5 alpine chase. Summits at 2,429m (7,969 ft), threading past the iconic Hotel Belvédère perched on a sheer hairpin next to the Rhone Glacier ice grotto. Toll-free cantonal road (annual Swiss motorway vignette CHF 40 only required if accessing via national motorways). Seasonal closure from late October/November through late May or early June. Tight exposed hairpins without guardrails on outer shelves require disciplined speed management.
Grimsel Pass (Grimselpass)
Carves through an imposing lunar landscape of glacially polished granite domes, turquoise hydroelectric reservoirs (Grimselsee and Räterichsbodensee), and massive stone dam walls. Summits at 2,164m (7,100 ft) by the historic Grimsel Hospiz. Toll-free pass road; Swiss vignette required only on national freeways. Seasonal snow closure from mid-October to late May. Wide, immaculately banked tarmac and flowing radius turns make this one of the most rhythmic riding passes in the Central Swiss Alps.
Susten Pass (Sustenpass)
Widely heralded by motorcycle connoisseurs as the finest engineered riding pass in Switzerland. Opened in 1945 specifically designed for scenic motoring, featuring 26 stone bridges, natural rock galleries, and sweeping cambered switchbacks with views of the hanging Steingletscher glacier. Summits via a short tunnel at 2,224m (7,297 ft). Toll-free cantonal road. Closed November through early June. Completes the world-famous Central Swiss Pass Trinity with Grimsel and Furka.
Gotthard Pass & Tremola Pavé (Passo del San Gottardo)
Historic trans-alpine spine over the Gotthard Massif. While modern Route 2 offers fast tarmac, the true motorcycle pilgrimage is the Val Tremola south ramp: Switzerland longest historical road monument, paved with hundreds of thousands of hand-cut granite cobblestones across 24 tight switchbacks plunging 3,000 vertical feet to Airolo. Toll-free. Closed late October to late May. Granite pavé can be slick when damp, demanding smooth throttle modulation and soft suspension setup.
