Traverses an otherworldly high plateau of barren granite slabs before plunging 3,000 vertical feet directly into the deep abyss of Lysefjord via 27 stacked hairpin turns. The descent includes an unlit 1.1 km tunnel featuring a 340-degree spiral corkscrew inside the mountain itself. Toll-free. Strictly closed during winter from late October to mid-May. Single-lane with passing bays; wet tunnel asphalt requires ultra-smooth braking.
